Animated Dumbbell Chart

Sometimes called a barbell chart. A dumbbell chart is great for visualizing the gap or change between two data points for multiple categories making comparisons instantly intuitive.

The dumbbell focuses on the distance between two endpoints which is perfect for showing before/after or Group A vs. Group B. The connected dot design is visually clean and reduces chart clutter compared to a grouped bar chart, making it easier to rank categories by the size of their gap at a glance. It’s particularly powerful to visualize “how wide is the divide.”
